Reclaiming Narratives

Updated: Oct 12

October marks the start of Black History Month in the United Kingdom, an occasion to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people to British economy, culture, and history.

The story of Black communities has often been told through lenses that often misrepresent, oversimplify, or entirely overlook the rich and diverse experiences of those who lived it. Under the national theme of 'Reclaiming Narratives', we are urged to take control of our stories, celebrate our heritage, and ensure our voices are heard.

In response to this, Arts Diverse-City and All Nations Community Centre, in collaboration with Gloucester FM and partners, invite you to join us this year as we embrace the powerful theme Reclaiming Narratives! It’s time to take control of our stories, celebrate our heritage, and ensure our voices are heard.

Throughout October and November, there’s a fantastic line-up of events! From a Joint Churches Service of Praise and Thanksgiving to Let’s Talk Awareness Sessions, a Games Night, a Sip and Create Night, Film Showcase with panel discussions, and even a Day Trip to the Liverpool Slave Museum—plus a Curry Night to wrap it all up!

Don’t miss out on this chance to connect, celebrate, and reclaim our stories. We wish to thank Valerie Simms and the team at Arts Diverse-city for pulling this information together into one place. For more information about events taking place in Gloucester/shire and beyond scan the QR code or visit: www.arts-diverse-city.org.uk.
