April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK. Early diagnosis is vital, as detecting bowel cancer at the earliest stage makes you up to 9 times more likely to be successfully treated. The latest national data also shows that almost one third of people who were sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit in England last year did not go on to complete it. This test can detect signs of cancer before you notice anything is wrong. Local data has also identified that there is low uptake of screening amongst our ethnic minority communities and that there are areas within Gloucestershire where patients are reporting symptoms at a late stage.
We would encourage you to watch the Q&A session produced by Gloucestershire NHS Hospitals Trust which talks about the signs and symptoms of #BowelCancer and some tips about the steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing the disease. https://youtu.be/8gTMbeQJj3c
